My Plan

Steve’s Diabetic Plan

In September of 2007 I was diagnosed with diabetes. I am not the type to go to doctors much and I had become very sick. The day the doctor checked my blood glucose I maxed the meter out at 500. My A1c numbers came back at 11.7 (should be under 6).

I immediately went on three medication, started a very strict diet and started exercising. After two doctor check ups I had dropped my A1c to 8.7, not good enough. I never have been one to like medication, so I began studying more about a nutritional approach.

I have currently been following the same plan for close to a year and my A1c has been 4.7 and 4.5 for the last two check ups. So I think that I have a plan that works and it has been proven on me but I know everyone’s bodies are different and may react to diabetes differently. With this plan I am now only taking one quarter of the medications I was initially put on, so take a look at this and see if this may help you too.

Diet

I was working with a dietitian and they created a meal plan for me. It was much stricter than what I will show you here. I think a diet has to be something we can live with or we won’t follow it. This chart is my guideline and I have days that I don’t always achieve these numbers. But I don’t beat myself up for not following it every meal but I try and stay consistent for the day. I may go way over at a lunch so I try to make it up at dinner. I focus most on the carbohydrates because this spikes my numbers more than anything else.

Exercise

It has been found that 30 minutes of exercise three times a week can lower the risk of diabetic complications by 58%. One of the great things exercise does for our bodies is toning of the muscles. This toning helps the body to absorb the sugars when we eat, increasing the insulin in the body for type 2 and aids in keeping the weight down. This does not have to be a major work out every night, walking will help very well. I have always been more of a weight lifting person so I work out on my Bow Flex three times a week and do some light walking.

Supplements

Many people just don’t get enough nutrients into their bodies each day and this may be the reason why they are dealing with medical problems later on in life. Many also don’t believe in many of the products on the market because they are normally sold through a network marketing company. This trend is because the medical world does not want to cure you; they only want to make you feel better. Most companies don’t have the funds to go through the rigorous and expensive FDA approval process, so they start up under a network marketing company and let the products speak for themselves.

I have tried many different products from many different companies, but finally found something that really helped.  I began to study some interesting information from Dr. Joe Prendergast in California, a practicing Endocrinologist and found how he was treating his patients. He is the developer of a product called Proargi 9 Plus made from L-arginine. Now I am not going to go into all the details of these products I use but I will provide some links to find more information. Now I totally believe that these supplements are what helped me bring my A1c to 4.7.

One ounce of Mistica every morning. An Acai Berry antioxidant blend.

Nature Maid diabetic pack multi-vitamin every morning.

Core Greens and NutriMor blend during the day.

Proargi 9 Plus just before bed.

I think that the Mistica and the Proargi 9 Plus is the key but I choose to add the others because I want a full blend of vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

I could go on for pages on how great I think these products are and how they have helped me but I will provide you with some links and a few things to think about.  http://mydiabetes.mysynergy.net

Search Dr. Joe Prendergast on the Web, he has some great videos.

But do some research on how antioxidants, vitamin D and l-arginine work for people with diabetes, it will all make sense as you dig deeper into this.

Now I want to leave you with a thought from Dr. Joe Prendergast. I have met him personally and this really made me thing more about my diabetes.

He told me not to worry so much about checking my blood sugar many times a day and trying to keep my numbers exact. He told me to worry more about the complications from diabetes. Most of the major complications come from poor circulation and people with diabetes are 65% more at risk to have circulation problems as time goes on, this is why you hear the stories of amputation and blindness. L-arginine works on keeping your circulation system clean and working properly. This has really changed how I think about my diabetes.

I could also go on about how a proper diet and proper nutrients could prevent people from getting diabetes but this is just a short explanation about my success. I believe that I got diabetes from a poor lifestyle. I never ate a well balance diet, I was 70 pounds over weight and I lacked the proper nutrients my body needed. Type 2 diabetes is a lifestyle disease and can be controlled and even more can be prevented.

I follow my diet as close as possible but not being extreme. I exercise most of the time and I follow my supplement regimen. I don’t worry as much about all of my readings because I can feel how my meals react in my body after several years. I feel like I have my diabetes under complete control and it no longer has control over me. I hope this helps you in some way and please contact me any time to learn more about my Diabetic Plan.
